Apple Core

Apple Core Binary License Agreement

Effective with Apple Core 2.0 (September 14, 2026). The signed, notarized Apple Core .app Oliver distributes, and its Sparkle updates, are offered under this agreement. Binaries 1.7.0 through 1.7.3 were offered under the September 2, 2026 version of this agreement, which is preserved in the repository history; GitHub Releases through v1.6.1 remain under GPL-3.0-or-later.

Copyright (C) 2026 Oliver Ames. All rights reserved except as expressly granted below.

Apple Core's source code and Oliver's signed binary are licensed differently, on purpose:

1. Grant

Oliver Ames grants you a perpetual, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to install and run the binary, free of charge, on Macs you own or control, for your own personal or internal business use. There is no license key and no activation step. You may run the binary on as many Macs as you personally use. A license does not grant the right to run the binary on Macs operated by other people; they download their own copy under this same agreement.

2. Restrictions

You may not redistribute, sublicense, or resell the binary, the installer package, or the Sparkle update enclosure, or present them as your own distribution. These restrictions govern only the signed binary Oliver distributes; they do not limit anyone's right to build, run, or redistribute source-built binaries under the GPL.

3. Hosted Service

Hosted access is optional. The binary works fully on your Mac without it.

What it is. The Hosted Service relays requests between clients on the internet and the copy of Apple Core running on one Mac, over an outbound connection that Mac makes. Each Mac you connect is its own hosted connection with its own Connection ID; a hosted connection belongs to the Mac that set it up and does not travel with a copied configuration. Requests and results pass through the relay in memory to be delivered and are not stored by it; see the privacy policy at https://applecore.app/privacy for what is kept.

Subscription. Hosted access will be offered as a monthly subscription at the price and device allowance shown at purchase. Billing is handled by RevenueCat and its payment processor under their terms; Oliver never sees your payment details. You may cancel at any time, and hosted access continues until the end of the period you have paid for. Refunds follow the payment processor's policy. Beta invitations issued before billing is live grant hosted access without payment until Oliver ends the beta, with notice.

Your responsibilities. You keep your Mac running, connected, and up to date, and you decide which services and folders the binary exposes. You are responsible for the clients you authorize and for what they do with your data. You may not use the Hosted Service to relay traffic for anything other than your own copy of Apple Core, to probe or overload the relay, or to circumvent its usage limits.

Limits and availability. The relay enforces per-connection limits on request rate, size, and concurrency, and Oliver may pause a connection that exceeds them or that threatens the service. The Hosted Service is offered without a service-level commitment; it may be unavailable for maintenance, because your Mac is offline, or because the providers it runs on are unavailable. Oliver may change or discontinue the Hosted Service with at least 30 days' notice, in which case any prepaid period beyond the discontinuation date is refunded.

4. Third-party notices

The binary bundles the license files in THIRD_PARTY_LICENSES/ and the attribution in NOTICE as shipped in the source. No further action is required of you to satisfy those notices.

5. Term and termination

The binary license lasts as long as you comply with this agreement. Breach, including redistribution of the signed binary or misuse of the Hosted Service, terminates it; upon termination you must stop using the binary and remove it. Oliver may end a hosted connection for breach without refund and without liability, and may end it for any other reason with the notice in section 3.

6. No warranty

The binary and the Hosted Service are provided as-is, without warranty of any kind, to the fullest extent permitted by law, including the GPL warranty disclaimer incorporated by reference for the underlying source. Oliver provides no commitment that any client, AI provider, or Apple service will continue to work with Apple Core.

7. Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Oliver's aggregate liability under this agreement is limited to the amounts you paid for the Hosted Service in the twelve months before the claim, and to nothing for the free binary. In no event will Oliver be liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, even if advised of their possibility.

8. Governing law

This agreement is governed by the laws of the State of Vermont, United States, without regard to its conflict-of-laws principles. Any dispute arising under this agreement shall be brought in the courts of Vermont.

9. Entire agreement

This agreement, together with the privacy policy and, for the Hosted Service, your subscription receipt, is the entire agreement between you and Oliver Ames for the binary and the Hosted Service. It does not amend the GPL governing the source.
