Use Apple Notes with your AI client

Apple Core is a native macOS app that connects compatible AI clients to Apple Notes through the Model Context Protocol, or MCP. Enable Notes in Apple Core, grant the required permissions and connect your client using the setup guide.

Release status: Apple Core 3.0 is in prerelease testing. The expanded Notes features below are part of that preview, not the current public download. See the release notes for the current release.

Find and read your notes

Use your client to find notes, read their contents and work with folders. A useful request names the subject and folder, such as “Find the project meeting notes in my Work folder.” Review the selected note before asking your client to change it.

Expanded Notes tools in the 3.0 preview

The preview adds ways to work with Notes' native objects, alongside text and attachments:

• Checklists: create editable checked and unchecked items from Markdown task lists.
• Tables: create native tables and read their rows and cells as structured data.
• Drawings: analyze supported SVG content before importing it as editable strokes. Visual differences require review before an approximate import.
• Paper attachments: experimental drawing support is still under validation. It is not ready for general use, and stroke recovery does not reproduce every visual object.
• Editing previews: inspect native append or prepend changes before applying them.
• Smart Folders: repeat the same creation request without adding another folder with the same rules.

Permissions and compatibility

Apple Core requires macOS 15.1 or later. Advanced Notes actions have additional compatibility requirements and need Full Disk Access. Apple Core checks the capabilities required by each action and reports when your Mac cannot perform it.

Your Mac must be awake and running Apple Core while a client uses its tools. Some Notes actions also need an active desktop session. Enabling Notes gives authorized clients access to its available tools, including actions that change data.

Local changes and iCloud sync

A successful local write does not confirm that iCloud has uploaded the change. The preview reports pending synchronization separately. Check the result on another device before relying on its availability there.

Choose what your client can access

Turn Notes access on or off in Apple Core Settings. Your AI provider receives the information returned by the tools you use. Review the privacy policy for local access, hosted forwarding and account information.
